Last Day in Galway by Emma Conway

Today was our last day in Galway and as such we were given free time to explore the town.  Our classes were shortened from 4 hours to 2 hours and we took the extra time afforded to us to watch the finale of the Volvo Ocean Race.  The Volvo Boat Race is a race around the world in 70 foot yachts and earlier this week the boats finally docked in Galway as the last stop and we have been enjoying the festivities that have come with it.  After the race, most of us went out to explore the city some more and get some last minute shopping in, although a few of us went back to the rooms for a well deserved nap.  We took advantage of the copious number of pubs to have a hearty lunch made necessary by the fact that it had been drizzling the entire morning and everyone was a bit damp and cranky.  After that it was a touch of souvenir shopping and before we knew it was time to meet the teachers at the checkpoint.  After meeting up and making sure we were all still alive (we were), we were once again released into the town to grab some dinner.  Most of us, after eating, just went back into the dorms to hang out.  But a few stayed in town to listen to an orchestra playing as part of the festival, although eventually they all made their way back as well to enjoy their new friends in the dorms.  We were allowed to stay in each others rooms until about midnight at which point we all filed into our rooms and attempted to pack for our move to Dublin the next day.  We are all really going to miss Galway.  It has been an amazing introduction to the Irish culture and history before moving to Dublin to get a feel for modern day Ireland.
