A day in the life of a Georgia Hardy Student
On the morning of July, 12 our 4th day in Dublin business went on as usual, got up (sorta), had breakfast, and went to class. Of course there is the friendly smile waiting for us when we arrive and with a tried grunt we greeted them too. After an educational class we took the bus from the University into Howth. Howth is a sleepy little town on the eastern coast of Ireland that has some of the greatest fish and chips, sea food chowder, and oysters. We arrived and the teachers gave us a short orientation and made some suggestions about activities to try: feeding the seals, checking out the seafood or joining them for a hike up to the cliffs. We set out for our first destination which had to include the Fish and Chips Shop. Then we went to the beach and walked along the rocks, where we discovered a jellyfish that has washed up on shore. Being teenagers, we threw around a couple of dares and it ended with a few pictures and pokes, but needless to say it was a great experience. Another great sea creature we saw were the seals sitting on the rocks when the fisherman were feeding them. A bit of time went by strolling along the street, finally we sat down at an ice cream and coffee shop. After we ordered our ice cream and drinks we saw one of the teachers Ms. Guest and she sat down with us chatted and told us where all the good spots are that we might have missed and told us about a restaurant that was in a little fish market. When dinner time came we went in to see the teachers sitting there at one of the two tables in behind all the closed fish tables. As we sat down at the second one and ordered three things for the 5 of us. We got the Seafood Chowder, Oysters, and mussels (Which most of us never tried before). All three of the meals were absolutely delicious, fresh, and interesting because the tastes of oysters and mussels were not really for the light stomached. As we were enjoying our dinner a man with a guitar sat down and started to play soft and melodic acoustic guitar tempos which were the perfect end to a perfect day at the beautiful town of Howth.
